West Jordan Symphony ventures beyond our world in Into the Stars: Music from the Cosmos, an immersive symphonic journey through planets, distant galaxies, iconic cinematic worlds, and the mysteries of space.

At the heart of the program are three movements from Gustav Holst’s monumental orchestral suite The Planets: “Mars, the Bringer of War,” “Venus, the Bringer of Peace,” and “Jupiter, the Bringer of Jollity.” From the relentless power of Mars, through the serenity of Venus, to the soaring celebration of Jupiter, Holst’s music captures three dramatically different visions of the heavens and remains some of the most influential music ever written about our solar system.

The program travels from the planets into some of cinema’s most unforgettable visions of space. “Theme from E.T.” evokes wonder, friendship, and the possibility of life beyond Earth, while music from Interstellar reaches into the vastness of space and humanity’s search for something beyond the familiar.

The adventure continues through the heroic sound of Superman Returns, the exploration and discovery of Star Trek Through the Years, and the sweeping galactic storytelling of Suite from the Star Wars Epic. Together, these works show how generations of composers have given musical voice to our fascination with the unknown, from the planets visible in our own night sky to imagined worlds far, far away.

Into the Stars expands beyond the orchestra itself with interactive visuals and lighting designed to surround the audience in the atmosphere of the music, creating a concert experience that is as visually engaging as it is symphonic.
